Following and interacting
Akurium is both a place to showcase your own things and a way to discover what other people care about. Following, reactions, comments, and favorites each serve a different purpose.
You can browse public material without an account, but you need to sign in before following someone, reacting, saving a favorite, or joining a conversation.
Follow a collector
Section titled “Follow a collector”Select Follow on another person’s profile or collector card to begin following them. The button changes to Following; select it again whenever you want to unfollow.
Following shapes your personal Stream. It does not give the other person access to private or unpublished material, and it does not change what they can see on your account.
Use your Stream
Section titled “Use your Stream”Select Stream from the main navigation to see recent public activity from collectors you follow. Depending on their activity, the Stream may include newly added items, updates to collections or items, and conversations on public content.
Activity appears only while its related collection or item remains publicly available. If someone unpublishes or removes the subject, its activity no longer leads other people to private content.
If your Stream is empty, use Explore to find collectors whose interests overlap with yours, then follow the ones you want to hear from.
React to a collection or item
Section titled “React to a collection or item”Reactions are a quick, public way to show appreciation:
- A heart reacts to a collection.
- A star reacts to an item.
- A thumbs-up reacts to a comment.
Select the icon once to add your reaction and again to remove it. The number beside the icon shows the current reaction count.
The owner may receive a notification when you react. Akurium does not notify you when you react to your own material.
Save a favorite
Section titled “Save a favorite”Favorites are personal bookmarks for collections and items you want to find again. Select the bookmark icon on a published collection or item to save it; select the filled bookmark again to remove it.
Open your account menu and select Your Favorites to see saved collections and saved items together.
If favorited content is later unpublished or removed, it may no longer be available from your favorites page.
Comment on a collection or item
Section titled “Comment on a collection or item”Published collection and item pages include a Join the Conversation area. Signed-in paid subscribers can write comments and reply to existing discussions.
To post a comment:
- Open the published collection or item.
- Scroll to Join the Conversation.
- Write your comment.
- Select Post Comment. You can also press Enter; use Shift+Enter when you want a new line.
Comments can contain up to 1,000 characters. Keep the conversation relevant to the collection or item and follow Akurium’s Community Guidelines.
Select Reply beneath a comment to respond within its thread. Select the thumbs-up icon when a response is helpful or interesting but does not need a written reply.
Content owners and comment authors can hide comments they are responsible for when moderation controls are available.
Check notifications
Section titled “Check notifications”The notification bell in the main navigation alerts you to relevant activity involving your account. Notifications can include:
- Someone reacting to your collection, item, or comment
- Someone commenting on your collection or item
- Someone replying to your comment
- New collections from collectors you follow when update notifications are enabled
Open the bell to view notifications. Individual notifications can be marked as read, and their links take you to the relevant profile, collection, item, or conversation.
A comfortable level of participation
Section titled “A comfortable level of participation”You do not need to use every social feature. Follow people when you want a richer Stream, react when something delights you, favorite what you want to revisit, and comment when you have something worth adding to the conversation.
